Pub Charity Ltd Supports Auckland Diving Pool Hire

The Auckland Diving Community Trust (ADCT) is delighted to have received a grant from Pub Charity Limited for $20,000 which will be used towards the cost of pool hire at West Wave in Henderson.

There are only two diving pools in Auckland, West Wave and Glenfield, however these pools are also used for other sports including water polo and synchronised swimming which means that availability of the diving boards is not guaranteed for the city’s two clubs - North Harbour Diving and Diving Waitakere.

“This grant enables us to make advance bookings of the facility at West Wave, securing it for our regular diving sessions and upcoming competitions,” said Head Coach, Steve Gladding, adding that he expects there to be even more pressure on pool bookings once Auckland is out of lockdown as the various users try to make up for lost time.

ADCT Chairperson, Dene Wilson, said the funding is very welcome for Auckland’s divers who are desperate to get back onto the boards to do the sport they love.

“Our coaching staff has done an amazing job of trying to keep our divers motivated whilst we are in lockdown, coming up with fun and creative activities that can be done via zoom, but there’s no true substitute for being on the boards so it’s wonderful to have these funds from Pub Charity so that we ensure the pool is available when we need it.”

Pub Charity Limited has an extensive history of funding local community organisations in New Zealand distributing millions of dollars to thousands of groups every year.

ADCT would also like to acknowledge the venues in the Auckland Region that have contributed to the funds:
